Minqi Wang (靈點) is a distinguished pipa player, indie artist, music producer, and passionate advocate for Chinese culture based in Massachusetts. She specializes in blending traditional Chinese melodies with contemporary Western sounds, crafting a unique fusion of Eastern and Western music.
Minqi began her musical journey at the age of six under the tutelage of Wang Xingzhen, the principal pipa player of the China National Film Orchestra. She has performed as a soloist across China, Israel, Germany, the Philippines, Spain, and the United States. Her past engagements include participation in the planning of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony and performances at the CCTV “Three Rural Figures” Award Ceremony. In 2009, she served as the leader of the Chinese Orchestra at China Agricultural University, organizing the university’s “Instrumental Ensemble” concert and leading the orchestra to win First Prize at the 2010 Beijing College Student Art Performance Competition.
After moving to the U.S., Minqi continued promoting Chinese music and cultural exchange. In 2015, she founded the UMass Chinese Culture Association (formerly the Chinese Music Association) to provide a platform for Chinese art appreciation and performance. She has since performed at renowned venues such as John Hancock Hall in Boston and the China Institute in New York City.
In addition to her musical career, Minqi holds a PhD in Food Science from the University of Massachusetts and is the founder and CEO of Ideation Foods, a food technology company. In 2023, she earned a master’s degree in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation (MPTI) from Berklee College of Music, further exploring the intersection of traditional Chinese instruments and modern music production.
Minqi Wang 靈點 (原名王玟琦)是一名琵琶演奏家、独立音乐人、音乐制作人及中国文化推广者,现居美国马萨诸塞州。她专注于融合中国传统旋律与西方当代音乐风格,创造独特的中西音乐融合体验。
王玟琦自六岁起学习琵琶,师从中国电影乐团首席琵琶演奏家王行珍。她曾赴中国、以色列、德国、菲律宾、西班牙及美国等地独奏演出,并参与2008年北京奥运会开幕式筹备及CCTV“三农人物”颁奖典礼等重要活动。2009年,她担任中国农业大学民乐团团长,主办“中国农业大学器乐合奏”专场音乐会,并带领团员获得2010年北京市大学生艺术展演比赛民乐小合奏一等奖。
2015年,她在美国马萨诸塞州创立麻州大学韶华社(前身为麻州大学中国音乐协会),旨在促进中西方艺术文化交流,并为中国传统文化爱好者提供展示和互动的平台。她曾在波士顿John Hancock Hall、纽约中国文化协会等知名场馆演出,将中国传统音乐带到更广阔的国际舞台。
除音乐事业外,王玟琦还拥有麻省大学食品科学博士学位,并创立食品科技公司 Ideation Foods,担任 CEO。2023年,她获得伯克利音乐学院音乐制作、技术与创新(MPTI)硕士学位,深入探索传统乐器与现代音乐制作的结合。

In 2023, Minqi earned a Master’s degree in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation from Berklee College of Music, where she explored integrating traditional Chinese instruments with modern electronic music. Her latest works push the boundaries of cross-cultural fusion, bringing the ancient sound of the pipa into new, innovative realms.

From China with love
“We’re interested in introducing students and people in this area to some different sounds,” said Minqi Wang, a post-doctoral student in food science who is also a highly accomplished pipa player and a founder of the CMA. “But we also play pop and jazz” to provide a broad range of music.
Wang says she sees the group as taking part in a broader cultural exchange between Chinese and Western arts.
Minqi is also a food scientist with a Ph.D. degree.
