The pipa speaks to memory, longing, and fire—
and through electronics, it becomes a language of breath and future.
Minqi Wang is a pipa virtuoso, indie artist, and music producer based in Massachusetts. Her work blends traditional Chinese instrumentation with electronic soundscapes, bringing the ancient pipa into concert halls, contemporary stages, and multimedia environments.
She began her musical journey at the age of six under the tutelage of a famed pipa player Wang Xing_zhen (1936-2019) of the China National Film Orchestra. Minqi has performed across China, Israel, Germany, the Philippines, Spain, and the United States, including appearances at Boston Symphony Hall and China Institute in New York.
Minqi received a master’s degree in production, technology, and innovation from Berklee College of Music in 2023, deep-diving into the integration of traditional Chinese musical instruments with electronic music. She is the founder and CEO of Vavine Sound, a film/game music studio, and Ideation Foods, a food-tech company promoting cross-disciplinary innovation.
